DARIN GENTRY'S OLD TIME MACHINE
With the addition of Joe Ellingson to the trio of Darin, Dale and Suzanne Adkins, DG's Old Time Machine kicks everything up a notch with a solid old time groove, killer vocal harmonies, with a little bit of swing, honkytonk and bluegrass thrown in to make it even more fun.
Hailing from the hills of Western North Carolina, Darin Gentry is the embodiment of traditional Appalachian music rooted firmly in the old time masters on fiddle and banjo. Listening to Darin, you are immediately transported to another era and mesmerized by his soulful renditions of the music on which he was raised. From a deeply musical family, Darin is steeped in the traditions from hearing the playing of his grandparents and great grandfather, whose banjo he still plays today. Whether its old time, bluegrass, honky tonk or country, Darin is not confined to one style of playing. Equally adept at fiddle, clawhammer banjo, bass and guitar, Darin was mentored early on by the legendary West Virginia musician Dwight Diller who claimed that Darin is “in my opinion one of the best under-thirty clawhammer banjo players today.”
Dale Adkins is a native Oregonian and longtime Northwest guitar legend who Flatpick Guitar Magazine dubbed: “a major force" As a part of Grammy nominee Kate MacKenzie's touring band, Dale performed across the U.S. and Europe in the 1990s. Other musical collaborations include guitar legend Dan Crary, John Reischman and the Jaybirds, Frontline, True North, Jim Faddis and many more. Dale is an instrumental wiz on guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and tenor guitar. Dale is also the owner and engineer/producer of Big Owl Studios where he has recorded and produced acoustic recordings of beautiful, pure quality for musicians all over the US. As an avid fly fisherman, Dale would also be thrilled to take you on a guided fishing trip on the Deschutes River.
Joe Ellingson cut his teeth on bluegrass and old-time music while busking at Seattle farmer's markets as a college student in need of beer money. He has an obvious passion for "good music" played simply and with feeling. His singing and mandolin/guitar playing bring soul, bounce, drive, lilt, screech, bang, pow!, and whatever else is called for.
Suzanne Adkins has been a stately, rock-solid bassist and vocalist in many Northwest groups over the years including Rock Ridge, Kristen Grainger & True North, Knott Bros, and Midnight45. She is a gifted vocalist and harmony singer in any configuration she joins. Suzanne is the Artistic Director for the Wheeler County Bluegrass Festival held annually in Fossil, OR and works alongside Dale Adkins as a record producer and engineer for Big Owl Studios, providing her own stamp to many bluegrass and acoustic recordings. Her other musical pursuits include serving on the Board of Directors of Acoustic Sound (Wintergrass) and in the past on the Oregon Bluegrass Association Board. Suzanne would also be thrilled to sell you a house in Central Oregon.
